Description

In this lesson, the students will be able to use the new vocabularies they've learnt in the shop and will discuss the shopping list through a role play during the lesson.

Materials

Abc cut-ups role play with prices
Abc cut-ups role play without prices
Abc Conversation script displayed on the board
Abc shop items, a picture of a customer and a shop assistant
Abc Handouts " fill in the gaps"

Main Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of items in the shop

Subsidiary Aims

  • To practice of the functional language used for asking for orders in the context of at the shop depending on the shopping list.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

the teacher will have newspapers, lighter, cigarettes, tissues, bottle of water, on the table and will ask the students to come and take a look at my mini shop, and at the same time the T will show a picture on the board for a customer and a shop assistant. The teacher will focus on the following words: sell, pay, buy.

Highlighting (4-6 minutes) • Focus on the TL - form

I'll give you HOs about conversation between (elicit the customer and the shop assistant from the students) work alone to fill in the blanks check your answers with your partner then check your answers from the board ( a displayed conversation on the board)

Useful Language (7-9 minutes) • To enable the Ss to be well-involved to the topic and phrases pronunciation

I will drill the questions and phrases of the conversation and focus on the stress and the intonation. I will focus on the currency "pound, cent"

Pre-task activity (4-6 minutes) • To enable the Ss to be well-involved to the topic and phrases pronunciation

work in pairs, As are the shop assistant, Bs are the customer change roles As are the customer, Bs are the shop assistant I will monitor and help for the intonation and pronunciation.

Controlled Practice (10-12 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

T will Ask Bs to come in front of the class and will give them a HO of shopping list and will ask Bs to check their items. T will ask the Ss to take a quick look to what they have in their hands, and ask them to do role play by requesting something from the shop assistant focusing on the stress and intonation they've practices in the previous stage. T will ask the students to change roles and will give them different HOs to both As and Bs.

Feedback and Error Correction (1-2 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

T will write down the errors and mistakes she has heard while monitoring round the class.

Semi-Controlled Practice (10-12 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

I will regroup the class and use the same procedure I've used in the previous stage but without prices on the items and without shopping list. Each pair will have different items so I can ask them to move to the second shop to find what they need. Then I will ask to change the switch the role play with also different pictures. I will monitor and help during the task.
