Description

In this lesson Ss will practice listening according to 3 audios about the routine. After this Ss will ask each other about a typical day in their lives.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide gist and specific information listening practice using a text about daily routine in the context of Simon's stressful day.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in interviewing each other about a typical day in their lives.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will ask the Ss some questions to generate their interest to the lesson: 1- Do you have a stress in your life? 2- Tell me about this stress? 3- Do you feel nervous when you get stressed? 4- What's the most stressful moment in your day?

Pre-Reading/Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

I will ask them" Are you busy daily?" to set the context. Then I will explain some blocking words before listening to the track by showing them some pictures of these vocabulary.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (5-8 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

I will tell Ss that we will listen to Simon talking to professor Parker and after listening you will tell me ''what is the audio talking about?" Then they will listen again to order the pictures. Then I will give them the feedback.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (15-18 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

Ss will listen to the second audio. In the second audio Simon will talk about a typical day in his life and Ss have to listen carefully to answer 10 questions with detailed information. They will answer them alone, check in pairs and then give them the feedback. I will give them clear instructions and to make sure of the instruction, I will ask them some CCQs: 1- How many questions do you have ? 10 20 Are you going to work alone first or no? and then? alone and then in pairs. Before listening to the last audio, I will ask them a question which is " Do you think that you have to change something in your day to be less stressful?" Ss will listen to professor Parker's advice to Simon and they will write down the advice. Then I will give them the feedback.

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Ss will work in pairs and ask each other about a typical day in their lives. Ss can use the questions which were in the second exercise. They will take notes and give me feedback about each other. The last step that I will give them my feedback.
