Copy of Passive Voice
Upper-Intermediate level

Description

In this lesson, the students will review and learn different forms of passive voice sentences. I want to use test-teach-test technique, so the students will first do a gap-filling exercise. Then they should talk about the forms in pairs and after that they will do another controlled practice. The session will continue by a freer practice. They will be given some questions to talk about in pairs or groups.

Materials

Abc controlled practice (passive)
Abc Passive Concept Check

Main Aims

  • To provide review and practice of passive structures and verb forms

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a conversation

Procedure

Lead in (2-3 minutes) • To engage students

Teacher will show two quotes and asks students to guess the person. Then the teacher draws students attention into the sentences and asks the students to find similarities in grammar in the sentences.

Test Ss' knowledge (5-7 minutes) • To test students' knowledge of passive grammar

When the students mention "passive", the teacher gives them a gap-filling HO and asks Ss to do it alone. Ss check in pairs. Teacher writes correct answers on the board.

clarification (12-15 minutes) • To clarify the meaning of "passive" sentences

The teacher gives a HO and asks students to work in pairs and choose the best answer for each sentence. Then the teacher gets feedback and asks some CCQs. "Which one is more important action or doer? Do we always know by whom the action is done? Do we use the past form of the verbs?" Then the teacher asks students to work in pairs and write the passive forms. For feedback, the teacher writes the forms on the board.

Controlled practice (5-7 minutes) • For the students to practice passive forms

The teacher will give the HO and asks students to rewrite the sentences in passive form. T gets feedback .( T asks Ss to write the answers on the board.)

Freer Practice (10-12 minutes) • For students to have a chat and use the target language

T will give the HO to Ss and asks them to choose 3 or 4 questions and discuss in pairs. Then with new partners (maybe in groups of three), Ss should talk about their previous partners' ideas.
