Description

In this lesson, the students will revise and practice the causative structures "have/get + object + past participle" and "get + object + To-infinitive" through a test teach test approach based on variety of tasks in the context of "New Man". The lesson starts with a speaking activity where students discuss the importance of being practical via the example of the to-do-list. The lesson ends up with a speaking activity as well where students show and talk about their own agendas.

Main Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice through discussion in the context of New man
  • To provide process and product writing practice of a things to do in the context of New man

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The teacher asks the students about the previous lesson themes. Then he shows the students pictures of " agendas" and get Ss discussing in pairs the importance of being practical and the use and the advantages of having a "to-do-list". T monitors the activity and takes notes. The whole class checks the answers and the teacher gives FB.

Task #1 (6-8 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

T gives HOs and asks the students to work out the exercise (7a) individually. Ss discuss their answers in pairs. T checks the answers and writes the correct ones on the board.

Teach (8-10 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

T uses the sentences on the board to elicit the meaning/use of each structure asking Ss to tell whether such action is done by the subject him/herself or it required an other object to perform it. T highlights the form and the pronunciation to be drilled. T shows the similarities between have/get.

Test #2 (6-8 minutes) • Check whether all the students understood the TL.

T hands out the worksheet and asks Ss to do the task individually. After finishing, the students check in pairs their answers. T gives feedback.

Semi-Controlled Practice (9-11 minutes) • To provide students with a semi-controlled practice of the target language

T hands out the To-do-list Worksheets and ask the students to list the things they plan, want to do using the previous grammatical structures in order of importance and priority. T monitors the activity and takes notes. Ss, in pairs, discuss the content of their lists in terms of the importance and the order. T collects the lists and pastes them around the class. Ss in a gallery walk discuss each other's work and corrects error if there are any.
