  • Grammar : to teach there is / are, negative forms,question forms and have students practice through controlled and free practice.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide listening through controlled practice.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students with the topic.

Teacher reminds Auckland,Keswik and Eyeries. T: My favorite town is Auckland. Teacher draws a picture of a town.

Grammar presentation. (10-12 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of there is /are

Teacher writes the following sentences and presents the grammar through eliciting from students by using the drawing on the White Board. There -------- a lake. There ----------a market. ------ there a park? Yes, there -----. No, there ------. T. asks "why do we use is?" T. gives the short form There"s./There isn't. There -------lots of restaurants. There--------any markets. -------there any restaurants? Yes,there------. No, there-------. T. asks "Why do we use are?" T: Listen and repeat. Teacher drills there is/there are.

Controlled Practice,1 (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice.

T: There are questions about Keswick. Fill in the gaps with "s' are' isn't, aren't" T. gives the handout (fill in the gaps). Ss. do the task individually. T: Finish and check with your pair. T: Stand up and check the answers on the wall. Ss. gets feedback on the wall.

Controlled Practice 2 (8-10 minutes) • Get students practice on the target language.

T: Individually,fill the gaps with "is there / are there" T. models the first question. ICQ Ss. get feedback from the CD. T: Individually,answer the questions. T. models the first question. T:Finish and ask the questions to your partner. ICQ.

Free Practice (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

T: In groups, Speak and share your partners answers. T modals. ex:T: There is a park. T. monitors and corrects errors.
