Description

In this lesson, students will learn about object pronouns. They will be introduced to these through a reading about film love stories.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of object pronouns (me, you, him etc) in the context of love stories in film. Students will learn how to avoid repeating names and nouns

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide detailed and deduction reading practice using a text about different types of love stories

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will have pictures of Romantic Films on the powerpoint ask students what type of movies are they elicit romanic films ask students what their favorite romanic films are.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

I will screen shots of the film ghost on the screen. I will ask students if they have seen the movie? If so, what is the name of the movie. "die"- show a picture, elicit the word clues=> opposite of alive drill die "ghost" - put a picture of a ghost and try to elicit the word. does anyone know what this is? tell them the name if they don't know. drill ghost CCQ's can we see a ghost? Is a ghost someone thats alive or dead? "Psychic"- Show a picture. Elicit the word Drill/ show them how to pronounce the word on the board CCQ's does a psychic believe they can talk to the dead? Yes does a psychic think they can see the future? Yes is everyone a psychic? No

Highlighting (4-5 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

SS will scan the text about the film. After that we will go back and look at the highlighted word. "We use these (object pronouns) so we don't have to repeat the names of the people. Students will go back and read text again to see which object pronouns belongs to which character. demo first and second exercise students will work in groups to complete the rest of the exercises.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Show students the chart of object pronoun matching with subject pronoun complete chart on the board Ask students to give me sentences with each object pronoun

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Students will work handout on page 154. give out answer key

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

Group work to match film type with the film

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

I will give the students a handout with categories. They will write something they either like or dislike in that category. I will demo making sure to use object pronouns
