Description

In this lesson, students learn about reading through specific information in the text. First, explain this magazine article is about men and crying, and why it is more acceptable for men to cry today than it was in the past. Ss look at the photos and discuss how they think these people feel. T. asks oral questions about crying and make prediction task. Ss read the article, and choose the best title. Students read the sentences and mark them true or false and discuss why the false ones are incorrect. The aim of this lesson is to give Ss practice in reading for gist and specific information in the context.

Procedure

Lead-In (5-7 minutes) • To create interest in the topic

T. Divide Ss into two groups (A and B) asking them oral questions about how they feel. Teacher lets ss look at the photos and asks them how the people feel. Then ask them oral questions about their feelings.

Reading (5-8 minutes) • To give Ss practice in reading for gist and specific information in the text of 'They cry easily'.

Prediction task – write on the board. Let Ss discuss in pairs. Then write their predictions on the white board. When Ss read, they can find out whether the text shares their ideas and opinions. Teacher asks Ss to read the article. Teacher asks them to choose the best title.

Alternative Procedures (5-8 minutes) • To give Ss practice in reading for specific information in the text.

Teacher asks Ss oral questions : In what situations do people cry? Do men cry more now than in the past? Do you think crying is a good thing? Teacher writes their predictions on the white board.

Reading the text (8-12 minutes) • To practice reading for specific information

T. asks Ss to read the sentences. Ss mark them true or false. Ss can compare their answers with their partners. Teacher ask Ss to correct the false ones.

Free Practice (5-10 minutes) • To give Ss free speaking practice for fluency

Ss discuss why the false ones are incorrect before teacher checks with the whole class. Teacher asks Ss to work in pairs to discuss questions and if the time allows we could have a brief class discussion
