Description

In this lesson, Ss practice speaking about their favorite places in various contexts through working with groups. The lesson starts with a lead-in that primes Ss to communicate info about places. Then Ss re-assemble jumbled dialogues from various contexts to better distinguish among functional contexts in which one talks about Favorite places. The last and major part of the lesson is a role play in which Ss practice fluently speaking about illness in real-world situations that demand different choices of tone, words, and symptom descriptions.

Main Aims

  • To give Ss the opportunity to develop their spoken fluency through talking about their favorite places.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To help the Ss using language various contexts to explain and describe places and shops and talk about their favorite places. To review and practice places related vocabulary.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (4-6 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students and revise the previous lesson

T starts the lesson bye warmer the Ss and break the ice T asks the Ss to stand on a line then to make a circle Every S will claps his friend's hand and say his name after that he has to claps his friend's hand on the right and says his friend name. T asks the Ss to close their eyes and imagine they are in their favorite places for one minute Ss open their eyes and write their favorite places on a colored paper Each S asks his friend about his favorite place and asks about his friend's favorite place - What's your favorite place ? - My favorite place is ---------- .

Pre-speaking (8-10 minutes) • Ss will practice and understand the difficult vocabulary

T shows the Ss the first hand out (Hands out EX 1) and ask the Ss to look at it T tills the Ss they will read the words in the small box alone and circle around the places of tings in his favorite places If it's not in his favorite places the Ss will draw a cross T hands out Ex 10 to the Ss and repeats the instructions and responds to any comments or enquiry Ss work alone and T monitors and ICQs

Speaking (12-14 minutes) • Ss will practice speaking fluency and speaking for accuracy

T sets the Ss into groups of four or three, according to their first hands out colors (the colored papers) Every S holds his card and his hand out and shows it to his group Ss will talk about their favorite places and use there is/ there are then they turn to the negative and say there isn't / there aren't Each s in the groups asks the others about their favorite places. -What's your favorite place ? -What you can find there ? T monitors and asks CCQs and helps with any problems

post-speaking (12-10 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

T tills the Ss to choose one of their friends favorite places or which of their partners' favorite places they like to visit. Ss say why they choose or like this place. Ss say if the want to visit that place. -Which place from your friends favorite places you like more? -Why did you choose this place? -Would you like to visit it ? T- monitors and give CCQs T gives FB and correct mistakes

FlexiStage - production Activity (10-12 minutes) • To have a fun activity during which Ss will practice the TL

T tills the Ss they are going to play a game like lottery and it's name is BINGO T shows a big chart and asks the Ss about many pictures inside it T tills Ss they will get a bingo card and they will try to remember each picture T tolds the Ss that they will cross each picture inside the chart if they hear it's name T gives examples -If i say museum you have to cross the museum's picture and if I say park you have to cross it's picture T Gives one bingo card to each S and asks them to look at it and try to remember their names T reads the places to the WC. T stops for moment and tills the Ss again to cross any picture that they hear it's name, just to check their ICCs. If any Ss cross out all his pictures on his card he should shout BINGO and the first one shouts bingo wins the game.
