Main Aims

  • In this lesson, students will be able to practise speaking and review grammar extensively in the form of a game in response to the topic before a formal recording.

Subsidiary Aims

  • In this lesson, students will be able to practise at least 10 sentence completion questions in IELTS Listening Part 2.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (13-15 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

-(F1) T tells ss the aim of the day. -(F2) Ss discuss the meaning of each number or phrase in pairs, then whole class feedback. -(F3) Ss discuss questions on the board in groups or pairs. Whole class feedback.

Pre-Listening (15-18 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

-(F4) Ss predict the topic and words they will be listening. -Whole class feedback -T highlights the stage and the importance by nominating ss to answer. (Review from Day1) -(F5) T asks ss the next stage of Pre-Listening i.e. underline keywords and highlights the importance. -(F6) T asks ss again before listening, what stage is after underlining keywords (Reading instructions).

While-Listening #1 (11-13 minutes) • To provide students with practice to check their prediction and complete 6 sentences with 1 word.

-(F6) Ss listening to check their predictions earlier and complete 6 sentences. - T asks ss to check answers with partners. - Whole class feedback. T also highlights any questions ss have. - T highlights the importance of checking if the form of word fits the sentence. Review concepts of nouns, verbs and adjectives taught on Week 4 Day 1 if necessary.

While-Listening #2 (12-14 minutes) • To provide students with extra practice on the stages highlighted.

-(F7) Ss highlight keywords. -(F8) T highlights instruction. - Ss listen, check answers with partners and whole class feedback.

Post-Reading/Listening (60-60 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

-(F9-12) T explains rules of the board game and Ss play it in preparation of the final speaking task. -Delayed feedback/Error correction. -(F13) Ss prepare and record. - Peer feedback. -Delayed feedback/Error correction.
