Description

In this lesson ss will practice using the second If conditional to talk about untrue situations in the present or the future.

Main Aims

• By the end of this lesson students will have practiced talking about untrue situations in the present or the future using If conditionals in the context of feeling, emotions and making wishes.

Subsidiary Aims

Subsidiary Aims • By the end of this lesson students will have practiced fluency speaking in an open discussion in the context of feelings, emotions and desires.

Procedure (35-45 minutes)

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Procedure -I will show the ss a photo of a person in jail and talk about him a little by saying that he has a very little chance of getting out because . -Then I will ask the following question: What do you think he is saying in his mind now? -I will ask the ss to work in pairs and talk about something unlikely that might happen to make their life better. - I will receive their answers quickly.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

- I will show a title of a song on the projector then I will ask the ss to work in pairs and try to guess what the song is about. -SS will listen to the song without showing the lyrics to check their ideas. -Then ss are given a handout with the song lyrics but there are some gabs to fill in individually. -Ss will work in pairs to check their answers. -I will give feedback by playing the song again with showing the lyrics on the projector.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

- I will ask what is the first thing the singer mentioned he would do? - I will elicit the TL then drill with the student showing the right Intonation. -I will check the Meaning through the following CCQs: - Is it past, present, or future? Present/future - Does he have a million dollar? No -I will highlight the form on the board . If I had a million dollars, I`d buy you a house. If+subject+ past form+ object, subject+ would+ infinitive verb+object

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

-Ss are asked to work individually and fill in the gabs using the verbs in the box. Instructions: - You have 8 sentences, in 2 minutes ,work alone and fill in the gabs using the correct form of the verb in the box. ICQs: How many sentences do you have? 8 Are you going to to write the verb as it is ? No Are you going to work in pairs? NO How much time do you need? 2 minutes - I will answer the first one with them . -After the two minutes ss are asked to work in pairs and check their answers together. -I will give the feedback.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

- I will divide the ss into two groups. - Each group will answer some questions , then they will switch the groups to read the answers. - At the end I will ask one student to pick a question and ask anyone in the class to answer. It will be an open discussion. - I will monitor from a distance and give feedback at the end.
