Description

In this lesson Ss will learn to express their likes and dislikes. Lesson will start with T showing a cartoon and asking Ss to discuss in pairs. T then asks Ss what they think about the cartoon and elicit or explain Ss about "blind date" and "match making". T will give HOs for testing and gets WC feedback creating answer key on WB. T will hang up icons to elicit the lexical set and cover "verb"/"verb+ing" usage, show form and drill some pronunciation. Then teacher will give HO for second test. T will set a freer speaking practice with WC, PW on T at the end of the lesson.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification on verb+ing (gerund) in the context of blind date

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of blind date
  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of free time activities

Procedure

Warmer / Lead in (2-3 minutes) • To set the context of blind date.

T shows the cartoon to Ss and reads them the line: "Our friends say we have a lot in common". Clarify the phrase "in common" and then asks students to discuss in pairs about the cartoon and it's meaning. Then T will ask Ss opinion and explain about "Blind Date" relating to "Match Making" in eastern culture.

Test 1 (5-7 minutes) • To test the TL

T will give "free time activity recall" HO to Ss to test the background information. Teacher will check few answers with WC feedback. Then T will give the 2nd HO "Test 1" to test the Ss about TL. Ss will create an answer key on WB with WC feedback. T will give 1 minute for matching and 3 minutes for gap filling. ICQ might be about time.

Teach (10-15 minutes) • To teach the lacking parts of TL

T will hang up icons to the WB and asks Ss about the meaning of the icons. Elicit the meanings of unclear once and then show the form of the vocabulary. T will drill some pronunciation. T will clarify the difference between "verb" and "verb+ing" usage if needed according to her monitoring during the Test 1 stage and show some example on WB. E.g. "I read books" - "I like reading" "She always dances" - "She loves dancing"

Test 2 (7-10 minutes) • To test TL again after teaching

T will give HO to Ss to tje last part of TTT. Ss will work in pairs. T will give 5 minutes to finish the task and then get a WC feedback. ICQs on this task can be about time.

Freer Activity / Speaking (10-12 minutes) • To practice TL for fluency

In this stage T will split class into two groups preferably married and not married people. T will ask group A to find out group B's likes one by one and see if they can set a blind date for any of them. The group A (married Ss) will sit as a line facing the WB. There will be chairs in front of group A for group B to sit and answer their questions. Ss of the group A will be asking questions for 90 seconds to find out the likes and dislikes of the Ss in front of them. At the end of the 90 seconds group B will swap chairs going to the next chair on their left. Time of this activity can change according to that day's attendance. ICQs for this stage: "Which group is asking questions?" "Group A" "Which group is answering?" "Group B" "How many seconds we have?" "90 seconds" "What do we ask?" "Likes and dislikes"
