Copy of Relative Clauses
To provide clarification of relative clause in the context of 'Social Networking Sites'
To provide specific information listening practice using a text about pausing for effect in the context of websites
Procedure (35-40 minutes)
The lesson will start with lead in. T will ask some questions about social media to make some free dialogues. 'Which websites do you use?', 'Why do you use them?', 'Do you know who made that website?' etc. T will elicit the ideas and set the context with the dialogues about social websites.
T will continue with a shouting dictation by using an edited text from a course book. In the text there are some relative clauses missing. Students are expected to work in pairs and read out loud the text in order to fill the missing parts of the sentences. A certain time limit will be set and after that students will do peer check, then T will provide the whole text as an answer key.
T will provide the structure of relative clause and main clause and clarify relative pronouns. Defining and non-defining clauses will be analysed. T will ask CCQs and check understanding. If the students don't understand will clarify again briefly by simple examples.
Then SS will fill in the rules from the HO and WCFB will be given. Students will try to find the defining and non-defining clauses from the exercise given. WCFB will be given.
Students will do an exercise in which they circle the right relative pronoun. Peer check will be done, and T will provide the answers as a whole class feed back.
Students will listen an audio to find the pauses of the non-definig relative clauses. Answer key will be given. WCFB will also be done.
