In this lesson, student will learn a set of vocabulary for business terms and roles; extract specific information from a reading text.

Main Aims

  • To provide practice of business terms and roles. in the context of business advice.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide detailed and gist reading practice using a text about Business in the context of business roles and terms

Procedure

Lead-in (4-6 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Divide the students into two groups " employees" and "employer" both groups have to finish this sentence: To succeed in business, staff employers/ staff should .....(3 different ways) then sts join new groups with a mix of staff members and employees to compare ideas. sts should persuade each other that their prescriptive is correct, then vote for the right one.

Pre-Reading (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

1 Individually, students complete the statements- Act 1 p76 Deal with pronunciation - competitors vocab: role 2. 2 76- In small groups, students discuss the statement and agree or disagree with five of their choice (time limitation) then share their ideas in WC pattern. 3. Check the meaning of " role" (what someone does in their jobs ) before sts get to do the activity. The task is done individually then check in pairs. (can use their dictionaries) - Deal with the pronunciation of some words in the box (stress)

While-Reading (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

sts focus on the website, read the title and are asked to guess what kind of information/advice they are expecting, sts are divided into 4 groups and each deals with one text and then in a new mixed groups, they summaries and discuss what they have read about.

Post-Reading (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

sts are given a few minutes to find example of the vocab (2a -3) from text. In small groups, sts choose 3 questions and discuss them together. they are encouraged to elaborate their answers.
