Main Aims

  • to provide practice in reading for gist and guessing The meaning of words in the text in the context of stressful daily routines

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide practice in speaking in the same context.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Ask the Ss what about their daily routine? who here go to work? do you go to work in the morning? do you have time for breakfast at home? do you feel stressed in your daily routine? Listen to some opinions.

Pre-Reading (5-7 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Show Ss the text and ask them can you guess the type of this text? article, story,..... Ask Ss what do you think this article talk about ? Elicit information about stressful daily routine of someone called Louisa.

While-Reading (15-17 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading tasks

*Give instructions ,now read the article well , try to remember as much information as you can ,because we are going to test your memory. *After 5 minutes give them a sheet contains 'fill the gabs' question about specific information in louisa’s daily routine. *Teacher ask Ss to check their answers in group work *Give feedback

While-Reading (10-12 minutes) • To provide students and practice gist reading.

ask Ss to read the article quickly for 1 minute Give instruction;to answer this question,how stressed is louisa? and why? Divide the Ss in two teams and give instructions, guess the meaning of highlighted words after reading the sentence of the word,you can use your dictionary if you want. give students a sheet contains matching question about the highlighted words. Demonstrate the first question with the Ss. Elicit the meaning of the highlighted words by concept checking questions, then drilling the word ,then write it on the board.

Post-Reading (9-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

I will ask students to close the paper of the article and I will set the task of communication. Louise's day A on p.108 ,B on p.111 . I will put Ss in pairs and take it in turns partner’s memory of the text by asking the questions they have been giving and I will draw two bubbles on the board and I will write in one of them," I think it's...." and Write in the second one" no, it's....." and I will told the students that they can use these sentences in their answers. then I will ask Ss to return to the article and check their answers in pairs.
