Description

In this lesson, students will learn the possessive adjective and the possessive pronoun through guided discovery based on a reading text on daily routines. The lesson will begin with a warmer (short video). Students will read the text, answer comprehension questions before we proceed to the MPF stage. Controlled-Practice Exercises will be given, followed by a semi-controlled writing task. If there's time, students will have Freer practice at the end of the lesson ( role-play)

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of possessive pronouns and possessive adjectives though guided discovery in the context of daily routines

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a discussion in the context of daily routines
  • To provide practice in listening for detail
  • To ensure accuracy during controlled practice

Procedure

Warmer/Lead in (3-5 minutes) • To set the context and engage the students

- Show Ss a video of an EFL teacher - With your partner, discuss what you saw in the video - W/C FB

Pre-Listening (2-3 minutes) • To focus the learners on the text about daily routines - Activate their schemata

Teacher shows the pictures of the text and elicits the context. Students work in pairs and share their ideas with whole class.

Live Listening (1-2 minutes) • Set the context for the gap fill

Read my Ss a passage that contains the target structure. This first read through aims to familiarize them with the passage information as well as the grammatical structure.

Listen with an Information Gap (1-2 minutes) • Listen for detail

Give Ss a transcript of the passage I've read. Target Grammatical Structure is replaced by blanks. Ss listen, try to determine what they are hearing, fill in the blanks. - I'll read again. You must *miming*, *eliciting* fill in the blanks. Alone. ICQs Will you just listen? ..Will you write? Alone or with your partner?

Grammar through Guided Discovery (20-25 minutes) • To clarify the MPF of the TL

Check your answers your partner. Answer Key on Powerpoint. "What do you think about these words?" CIRCLE THE WORD NEXT TO THEM. ICQ - Are you going to underline? " Which word goes with which word?" CLARIFICATION ON **MEANING** CCQs Whose- Is it one word? Or two words? Who is ? >> >> CLARIFICATION ON **PRONUNCIATION** Choral Drilling, Group Drilling. Emphasis on "whose" CLARIFICATION ON **FORM** CCQs Teacher gives FB.

Controlled Practice (4-5 minutes) • To provide practice in accuracy

Students complete 3 controlled practice exercises. Monitor. Take FB. Answer Key on WB

Freer Practice (10-15 minutes) • To provide oral fluency practice/ writing

Students talk with their partners about their daily routines. Theyre given a written task
