In this lesson, the Ss are going to do warm-up activity about the difference in life now and the past. This is followed by discussion about the modern life and past. Also, they are going to do listening and language focus as a sub aim. Finally, they are going to have some activities about speaking as a main aim.

Main Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a discussion and opinions in the context of modern life and the past

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide listening practice using a text about btween the past and the present


Warm-up (2-4 minutes) • To introduce the topic via a quick speaking task and some pictures

The T posting a paper on the WB with a written statement " Modern Life is Harder Than in The Past" and posting three pictures related to the statement. Then, the Ss are asked to write down their exceptions and share with a partner.

Listening (10-16 minutes) • To present the functional language in context via a via conversation or series of conversations.

The Ss are asked to read the three statements from each speaker before listening. While listening they have to write True (T), False (F) or Doesn't mention (DS) according to the statements they hear. The T will play the track again if needed. Then, the Ss are asked to compare their answers in pairs. After that, they Ss will be given the answer keys of the listening task.

Language Focus (2-5 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the items of funcotional language

The T will submit HO. The Ss are asked to underline the words which are used to talk about making generalization. Then, The Ss are asked to compare their answers with the others. If there is enough time, the Ss are asked to answer exercise.2 by inserting the missing words from the box in each sentence.

Speaking (10-20 minutes) • to allow the Ss an opportunity to use this language in a meaningful, real-world context.

The Ss are asked to discuss the sentences are given in exercise.1 . After that, the I will make two groups one is PAST and the other one is PRESENT. They are sitting in front of each other and discussing about their modern life and past life. I will be involved to support the topic so that the Ss don't go out of it or dry up.
