Description

In this lesson students will learn some new vocabulary about shopping, they will listen to an interview with a shopaholic girl, they will be listening for gist and for specific listening details. They will follow this up with a short speaking, discussing their own shopping habits.

Main Aims

  • To provide gist and specific information listening practice using a text about shopaholic - in the context of Shopping

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification and review of shopping words in the context of shpping and shpooers
  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of shopping and shoppers

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T asks ss about their weekend, how did they spend it? some might say visiting family, T asks ss if they have done any shopping? what kind of shopping? T elicits some vocabulary like: shopping center/mall, corner shop, window shopping, then T presents some pictures related to the topic, ss work in pairs to discuss how many kinds of shopping were presented. T elicits some ideas.

Pre-Listening (8-10 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

T gives ss HO ask them to do exercise1 in pairs, about categorizing the vocabularies in three categories: 1-people 2-types of shopping 3- places to go shopping. T elicits the answers and record them on the WB. T asks ss to do exercise 2, T gives instructions, they just need to fill in the blanks to complete the quiz and not answering the quiz. ICQs . How many blanks do you need to fill? 6 Do you need to choose true or false? no Check with your partner. T elicits the answers and write them on the WB

While-Listening #1 (5-7 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information listening tasks

T tells the ss they will listen to an interview with a girl who likes shopping a a lot, T elicits the word (shopaholic). T asks ss to read the questions in exercise 1 in the HO, and listen to decide which of the questions the interviewer doesn't ask. check with a partner. T elicits the answer.

While-Listening #2 (12-15 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference listening tasks

T asks ss to listen again and find out what does Katy answer for questions: 1-2-5-7-8 ICQs which questions do you need to answer? 1-2-5-7-8 Are you going to look for the answer of question 3 ? no. T asks ss to check their answers with their partners. T elicits the answers with the WC.

Post-Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

T asks ss to work in groups, and think about: which kind of advice can they give Katy about her shopping addiction.T gets some FB. T asks ss to answer the quiz about themselves , then, they need to mingle in the class to find the person most similar to themselves and sit next to each other. If time T does some pronunciation drills using the sentences: you enjoy shopping so much that your friends say you are a shopaholic. you hate big supermarkets and prefer to buy your food at the local corner shop. Delay error correction as necessary.
