Description

In this lesson, 1) T will brainstorm with ss about the meaning of "creative thinking". 2) Ss will answer few questions in pairs about creative thinking that are in the book. Ex 5. 3) T will pre-teach the hard vocabulary in the text. 4) ss will read for specific details and answer four questions about the text. (6a) 5) T will present the problem of "placing the statue" and then ss will together match the words in the box with their definition (6b). 6) T will pre-teach hard vocabulary in the listening 6.3 7) Ss will listen twice to the audio and answer (6c). 8) ss will answer the box and check answers in pairs. 9) exercise e and f

Main Aims

  • To provide detailed reading practice using a text about Placing a statue
  • To provide specific information listening practice using a text about Placing a statue

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in presenting a technical problem and providing solutions for it in pairs

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (10-15 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

1) T will brainstorm with ss about the meaning of "creative thinking" Check the word file in brainstorming topics file. 2) Ss will answer few questions in pairs about creative thinking that are in the book. Ex 5.

Pre-Reading (10-15 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

pre-teach the hard vocabulary in the text. Refer to the notes inside my book.

While-Reading #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading tasks

1) T explains how to read for gist then, asks them to state the (Main idea). 2) T explains meaning of reading for details. 3) ss read the questions in the book. 4) ss answers questions accordingly. 5) ss check answers in pairs. 6) T writes answers on the board.

While-Listening #2 (10-15 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

1) T explains how to take notes for ss. 2) ss read the questions. 3) ss listen twice and take notes. 4) ss compare their answers together. 5) T writes answers on the board.

Post-Reading/Listening (15-20 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Speaking Situations: Making Suggestions Phrases for these situations **Alternatively **Another option would be... **Couldn't we... **What about.. **Why don't we.. **I think you should. . . **I don’t think you should. . **Maybe you should. . . **Why don’t you. . . **Why don’t we. . . **Let’s. . . Answer: **That’s a good idea. **Thanks for the advice. **Good suggestion. **Sounds like a good idea. Conversation Practice With a partner, practice making suggestions in the following situations: 1. Help your partner decide which item to buy. (Car/hair product...etc). 2. Warn your partner against doing something. (going to a certain place/buying a certain product) 3. Suggest that your partner change his/her plans. (travelling somewhere) 4. Help your partner make up his/her mind. (enrolling in a university or deciding on a major) 5. Suggest doing an activity together.

Grammar Sheet 1- Page 2 (4-5 minutes) • To provide students with the correct methods of making questions.

T revises the Question forms and Subject verb agreement with ss. ss answer the questions and check answers in pairs.
