Daily routines

Description

In this lesson, students will practice speaking about their daily routines. They will use the following vocabulary: common verbs and nouns, "brush your teeth, wash your face, go to school etc." Students will also get to read "Days and Nights Quiz". Students will have the chance to practice other skills including receptive (listening, reading) and productive (speaking and writing) throughout the lesson.

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a Circle-Story-Completion in the context of daily routines

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification of Adverbs of frequency in the context of always, usually, often, sometimes, never
  • To provide clarification of Daily routine in the context of start/finish the day, eat, travel, free time, work and study

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

To get ss speaking in English about their favourite day and explain their choice.

Exposure (3-5 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

SS complete the table with the verbs in blue in the Day and Night Quiz. T asks SS to listen and do self-check.

Highlighting (4-8 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

T asks SS to read the Day and Night Quiz and write True/False to each sentence. T asks SS to compare their answers with a partner using the key phrases. T tells SS to listen to the conversation and highlight the verbs in ex.1 people mention.

Clarification (4-6 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

T asks SS to check the meaning of the words in the box, then listen to the audio and complete the sentences SS complete the chart with the adverbs from the box. Then choose the correct words in rules 1-2.

Controlled Practice (5-8 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

SS read sentences 1-9 in My daily routine. SS rewrite the sentences with the adverbs of frequency so that they are true for them. T asks SS to read their sentences. T gives error correction if necessary.

Semi-Controlled Practice (5-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

SS write 4 true and 2 false sentences with an adverb of frequency about their routine. In pars, SS listen to their partner and say if they think they are true or false.

Free Practice (5-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

T tells to imagine SS in their favourite celebrity position. SS write/tell about their daily routine.
