Description

In this lesson ss will practice integrated skills (reading and speaking) through a jigsaw reading activity with two text. First will be a warmer to get Ss interested in the topic, I will show Ss a glass that is half-filled with water “half full” or “half empty” and elicit optimistic or pessimistic. Then I will Show Ss the title “All’s well that ends well” and give them a small pargraph to scan read, then Ss discuss in pairs/small groups what they think it means and if it is optimistic or pessimistic in meaning. The main activity is a jigsaw reading, the ss will be divided into groups A&B. The tow groups will be given different text to read intensivly about two people.When they finish the two groups get in pairs and and retell what they raed to their partner. Then the ss will be given HO with words and simple definition, in small group they match the words with the definitions. In the last activity ss will discuss in pairs what they are optimistic about.

Procedure

Warmer/ Lead in (5-8 minutes) • To get ss interested in the topic

Get Ss interested in the topic. Show Ss a glass that is half-filled with water to elicit answers from the ss“half full” or “half empty” ask and elicit optimistic or pessimis. Ask the ss how do the feel about the world in general,do the feel optimism or pessimists.

All's well that ends well (5-8 minutes) • speaking for fluency- reading for specific information and detail,

Show Ss the title “All’s well that ends well”. Ss discuss in W/C what they think it means and if it is optimistic or pessimistic in meaning. Ask Ss if they think most people are optimists or pessimists. Then have the ss to read the paragraph to check if they were rightor wrong, Were they surprised about anything? Then Ss discuss in small groups if they describe themselves as optimists or pessimists.Take general FB.

Jigsaw Reading (10-13 minutes) • To practice reading for specific information/detail (Scan reading/ receptive skill)

Divide the class into two groups A & B. Present the pictures of two people and tell the ss to guess their jobs and if they look optimistic or pessmisstic. Then tell them they will read about those two people who to see if thier guessing were right. Give each group the text A and B. Ss read and discuss in their groups what they think the person is optimistic about. On the top of each HO writen A B C D E F When the ss finish their discussion regroup the Ss so they are in pairs of 1xA & 1xB by matching their letters. Ss tell each other about the person they read about.Take FB.

Matching exercise (5-7 minutes) • To introduce related vocabulary

Ss will be given a HO with matching exercise.Ss match the new cocablury with their definitions.

Freer activity (5-9 minutes) • Speaking for fluency

This freer speaking activity. Ss discuss in small groups what they are optimistic about.TakeFB
