Description

In this lesson, Ss will use functional language and learn vocabulary of ordinal numbers, months of the year. They will be also introduced to some phrases for special days. Other than ordinal numbers most TL used is for practice. Listening and speaking skills will be used.

Main Aims

  • To provide vocabulary about Months and Dates used in the context of special days.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide specific information and inference listening practice using a text about Months and dates. In the context of Special days
  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a phrases for special days, months and dates in the context of special days

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students about special days

T will give Ss HO to match the cards with days. Then the T will ask the Ss "are these days important?" Elicit also "Why are they important?".

Phrases for special days (2-5 minutes) • To let Ss know what we say in such occasions

T will ask Ss "what do we say to others in those important days|" The T elicit some of the phrases and then provide the others.

Introduce the months (6-9 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

T will elicit from the Ss the question about birthday by asking "what do you say to ask about someone's birthday?" Then The T will give Ss HO about Months in order to have them in the correct order. Ss will do this task individually, then T will ask them to check with a partner. Finally, Early finishers Ss will write the write order on the board as a WCFB.

Introduce the ordinal numbers (8-10 minutes) • To teach the Ss how to say the dates

The T will write 01/06/ in numbers and ask Ss to change them into words. T will ask them to do this individually and then to check with a partner. The T will elicit the answer from Ss as a WC. The T will model other numbers and check Ss background knowledge. After that, T will give Ss HO to match numbers with words about dates.

Listening task 1 (2-4 minutes) • To make Ss focus for detailed inf to circle the correct answer.

T will introduce the task and ask Ss to listen for the right date and circle the correct answer that they hear individually. Next step, to check with their partner in pairs.

Detailed listening task 2 (3-6 minutes) • To let Ss focus on specific details from the listening

T will tell the Ss that they will listen to questions and answers about dates and they have to fill in the gaps with the missing words. Ss will do this task individually and then check with a partner. WCFB will be by eliciting the answers from Ss.

Speaking task (3-6 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

T will ask the Ss to write 4 important dates to them on a piece of paper. After that as k them in pairs to ask and answer questions about their important days.
