Description

In this lesson plan,students learn about the lexis in context of ( law and order) and followed by contolled practice (exercises from the course book and also freer practice speaking, to provide an opportunity for Ls to use the target language and teacher give them feed back.

Materials

Abc gap-fill hand out/matching
Abc Narrate(the scene of the crime)

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice the lexis in context of law and order

Subsidiary Aims

  • for students to practice speaking through the context of (law and order) lexis

Procedure

lead in (1-2 minutes) • to generate interest in the topic of the lesson

.T ask Ls do you know the crime rate in turkey or in your home town ? with your partner talk about that .

gist task (2-3 minutes) • To ensure learners are comfortable with the text before exploiting it for language0

_ teacher give intructions with chest presentation: to the students ,read, fill in the blank,not worry about bold vocabulary and you have 2 mins,then _CCQS:how much time do you have ? _ Teacher hands students a copy of student’s book and worksheets. _ teacher says check answers with your pair _also ask one of the dominant students to come to the board to write the answers

highlight language (3 minutes) • to highlight the target language in context

_T highlight the new words in power point with new sentences in different color. 1.witness:there was a witness to the accident. 2.evidence:.there was not enough evidence to prove him guilty. 3.arrest:the police arrest the thief. 4.court:please tell the court what exactly you saw. a man has been charged and will appear in court tommorrow. 5.trial :he was on trial for murder. 6.jury:the jury finds him guilty. 7.sentence: Judge sentenced him to three months in prison for shoplifting.

clarify language (meaning) (3-5 minutes) • to provide calrification of meaning of the target language and check Ls understand the target language for meaning

T ask CCQS to check understanding the new words. 1.witness:is this a person who have seen the crime scene? 2.evidence:is it an information that shows someone is guilty? 3.arrest:is it an action that police do to catch Sb? 4.court:is it a place where legal decisions are taken? 5.trial;is it a process of deciding some one guilty or innocent? 6.jury:are they groups of ordinary people or officials? actually they are 12 members of the public who decide if a person is guilty or not. 7.sentence;Is it a punishment given by judge ?

clarify language (form) (3-5 minutes) • to provide clarification of the form of the target language

T show the form of new words in power point. 1.witness:noun countable 2.evidence: noun uncountable 3.arrest:v 4.court :n c 5.trial:n c 6.jury:n c 7.sentence:v

clarify language (pronunciation) (3-5 minutes) • to provide clarification of the pronunciation of the target language

teacher show the exact phonetic formof each word on power point and show students stress syllables. _

practice • to provide and opportunity for Ls to use the TL

_Controlled practice:teacher ask Ls to do exercise 2 _giving instructions: T ask Ls to match the bold vocabulary with their definitions and they have 2 minutes. ICQS: are you going to match the bold vocabularies with definitions? how much time do you have ?or you have 2 minutes _free practice:teacher provide Ls a short crime article,and relate the event as if they had just witnessed it.and they have 3 minutes _Teacher hands them a slip of paper to read it individually,and if they don't know a word explain it to them an also after 1 min gather the papers say them to stand up in pairs imagine you were at this crime scene as a witness.in pairs make your own story such as I couldn't believe my eyes.........after 2 minutes swap their partner.
