Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of simple past tense in the context of Christmas

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide product writing practice of a story in the context of last Christmas
  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of Christmas

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Teacher shows students set of Christmas pictures and ask them to think about the following questions. 1. Where did you spend last Christmas 2. What did you do in that day? What was the most interesting moment in that day? Teacher first models by answering the above questions and start talking about his own last Christmas, then ask students to share their last one.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Teacher will hand students a text on the simple past and a piece of paper includes 3 questions . I will ask them to skim the text and start answering the questions . after that I will ask them to check the answers in pairs , afterwords I will check the answers with them because this feedback will establish that the text has been comprehended to a large extent

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

.Teacher will ask students to guess the tense is used in the text and what are we going to talk about? Then I will ask students to highlight on the verbs and sentence in the simple past

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

The teacher will start to clarify and draw students' attention to the form ( how to make it ) and function (its meaning) of the tense by eliciting the sentence by asking CCQs to facilitate the students' noticing how the language works. Such as the teacher will ask students Is this sentence happening now the students will answer no it's in the past. The teacher will ask again the action happened and finished in specific time in the past? The will say yes. The teacher will ask students again did Mr. and Mrs. jenson walk around the tree farm alone? The will answer no. They walked with their kids. And make their answer in negative and plosives sentences till I make it clear.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

The teacher will split the students into pairs and ask them to answer the worksheet and. after that he will show them the answer sheet to check their answers

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

In semi-controlled activity the teacher will divide them into pairs and each pair will set like seating interview and he will show them sentence in the past and the one who is giving the face to the data show reads the sentence and the opposite one who is giving the back will negate this sentence and ask a question on this sentence and after a while the teacher will ask them to switch the roles . at the same time the teacher monitors them to check their mistakes and correct it on spot .

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

The teacher will ask students to write about the last Christmas and the happiest moment ever you enjoyed

Assumptions

Students will be able to have knowledge about simple past tense and they can talk about their past actions and ask any question in the past . Students have experience with writing about their Christmas and past events the had

Anticipated problems and solutions

Students might have difficulties to differentiate between regular and irregular verb forms. Sufficient explanation, and much practice

Personal Aim

In this lesson I will try to improve my presentation skills and use my gestures to clear the message to my students . I will try also to give my students much space and comfort to facilitate them to practice the target language freely and mend their mistakes so i will work on reducing the TTT
