Description

In this lesson, sts will be introduced to the vocabulary of health. Then, sts will talk about health. Following that sts will read an article about healthy heart and do skim and scan reading related to the article.

Main Aims

  • To practice reading for gist and specific details in the context of healthy heart.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To review and practice the vocabulary of health by eliciting and matching the phrases with the pictures.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

-T greets the sts -T says "Let's talk about health but before that let's learn some vocabulary." The T tries to elicit the vocabulary by showing pictures to the sts.

Pre-Reading/Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

-T says "I'll give you some words phrases and pictures. Match them with your pairs. You have 3 minutes" -ICQ "What will you do?" -T models the task on the WB. Feedback: T says" The answers are on the wall. You can check them." -T says "Which of these phrases are about healty lifestyle and which of them are about unhealthy lifestyle? Talk about it with your groups.You have 2 minutes." -T models on the WB. -T says " Do you think you have a healthy or an unhealthy lifestyle? Why? Talk about this with your groups. You have 4 minutes. " -T models on the WB. Feedback: T says "Who has the healthiest lifestyle in your groups?"

While-Reading #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

-T says "Guess the answers to these questions with your pairs.You have 3 minutes." -ICQ " Will you talk about these questions?" -T models on the WB. -T says "Read the article and check your answers. You have 5 minutes." -ICQ "What will you do?" Feedback -T gives the answer sheet to the sts. -T asks "Did you guess them correctly?"

While-Reading #2 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

-T says "Read the article again find 4 things that are good for your heart and 4 things that are bad. Do this with your pairs. You have 4 minutes." -T models on the WB. Feedback: T says "Write your answers on the WB." -T says "Does anything in the article surprise you?Do you agree/ disagree?"

Post-Reading (4-5 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Optional -T says "Write 4 questions by using 'How often' on your own. You have 3 minutes." -T models on the WB. -T says "Stand up and ask these questions to 3 people.While you answer use 'once a day /twice a day/ three times a day/ four times a day and every week/month/year" -In the end, T gives delayed feedback.
