Ss will practice listening after getting intrested in the topic which is special days.Ss will learn some phrases to be used in the cotext.

Main Aims

  • To provide gist listening practice using a text about a dialogue about someone's birthday in the context of special days

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide practice of language used for asking for suggestions & making suggestions in the context of special days


Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

show SS a picture a birthday cake on the board and remind them of the spacial days like birthdays show them another picture of a gift and ask them to guess what is inside .then write their answers on the board.

Pre-Listening (7-10 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Teach Ss the needed vocabulary such as buy using some CCQs Should I have money to do that(buy)? yes can buy people ? no can I buy things ?yes tell them that buy ,get and give are used with the same meanig in this conext . let's get him a book let's buy him a book let's give him a CD. -present (n) by showing them a picture &giving them a synonym "gift"

While-Listening #1 (5 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information listening tasks

Focus on the photo of TANYA & ask Ss if they recognioze Tanya .Elicit that Simon is her husband and tell Ss that they are talking about their friend Tom's birthday ask Ss to listen to the audio to find out what Tanya &Simon decide to buy.

Feedback (2-3 minutes) • share answers and check Students understanding

ask Ss to share answers with their partners then have WC feedback the answer new Simpsons DVD

While-Reading/Listening #2 (5 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

ask Ss to listen again and to fill in the gaps then play the audio again to give them another chance to get the answers.

feedback (3-5 minutes) • share answers then check students understanding

Ss check their answers in pairs ask Ss about the answers randomly and then write the answers on the board .

Controlled practice (5 minutes) • Ss will start using the functional Language effectively

Ss look at the conversation 9b & fill in the gaps in the table Ex 10 p.27 then check answers in pairs.

Feedback (5-7 minutes) • share answers & check Ss uderstanding

give the Ss the answer key to check the table with each other in pairs . -point out that what shall ..? & let's.... are followed by the infinitive - teach How about ...?as an alternative to what aboiut ...? - highlight the negative answer No , I don't think so . which is not in the conversation

Post-Listening (3-4 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Ask Ss to listen and practice R3.16 write the sentences on the board. then ask them to repeat chorally then individually.

free practice (5 minutes) • use the TL in context

Ask ss to work in pairs to practic ethe coversation in 9b and use today's date . ask two Ss to model it infront of the class.

free practice of the TL (4-5 minutes) • wrap up the lesson in a nice energetic speaking activity

Give Ss pictures of gifts and get them ready to make a circle then ask everyone to give the gift she/he has to the one next to him or her to practice the TL ex .Happybirthday,Maria This is for you. - Oh,thank you It's lovely/great
