Main Aims

  • The main aim of this lesson is to clarify, review and practice the articles ( a,an,the) and quantifiers ( any,some).

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide Ss. the opportunity to practice speaking ,listening and writing skills


Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To recap the previous lesson and introduce the topic to the students.

T:You read about the British shopping basket. T:What do they have in their basket? T:Are there any changes in British eating habits? T:What are they eating now? T: In pairs discuss. FB as WC.

Test #1 (8-10 minutes) • This stage tests all the students prior knowledge.

T. shows the HO T.: Individually, exercise #1. T: Choose the correct word to complete the task. T. uses ICQ. T. monitors closely to understand how much they know individually T: In pairs, check the answers. Whole Class FB. l will monitor closely,in order to see how much each student know.

Teach (15-20 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage.

T. puts the Ss into 4 groups. T. shows the cut-ups to the Ss. T: There are sentences and there are the definitions of a,an,the,some,any. T: ln your groups,match the sentences with the definitions. Focus on (the,a,an, some,any) T. checks ICQ. T. will distribute the cut-ups. T.monitors. T: Check the answers with the other groups. T: Shows the answer sheet (FB) T: Check your answers.T.distributes the answer sheet. If necessary T. gives detailed FB.

Test #2 ( controlled practice) (8-10 minutes) • practicing the target language.

T. shows the Handout. T: exercise #2.lndividually ,correct the six grammatical mistakes in the conversation. ICQ. T:In pairs compare your answers. T : Listen and check your answers. ICQ. T : Plays the CD. Ss get the FB from the CD. T will give the pronunciation word "the" T : Do you have any questions?

Free practice (8-10 minutes) • To get students practice the target language.

T. puts Ss. into 4 or 5 groups (depending on the class size.) T : Individually write your own shopping basket lists. T: Compare it with your group members, write the similar items you will find. ICQ. T. writes the task on the WB. T: The group which has the most items will be the champion. T: Go to the board, write your similar items you found.
