for students to practice fluency speaking on the context of protest
Procedure (45-55 minutes)
Show video and elicit what it is about , Then elicit the word protest , Then ask SS to discuss it in their groups.Encourage everone to share ideas. Then ask SS to Tell Their Ideas . Then ask SS to give you a list of issues that people might demonstrate about. Now SS discuss the first part questions in pair.
To reduce blocking vocabulary and make the text easier to understand , I will pre-teach the blocking words in the text . 1)creampie ELIcit : I elicit them by showing pictures. ICQs::Does it have cream on it? is it delicious? drill: repeat stress: show on words 2)pompous public figures 1)Elicit: show picture 2)CCQs: Are they famous ? Do you like them? 3)Drilll and stress 3)cyclist elicit : show picture CCQs Are these bikes ? Do they ride bikes? Drill and stress 4)divorce Elicit: show picture CCQs: Are there men and women? Are they married? Do they love each other? drill and stress 5)family court Elicit: show picture CCQs: Is it a place? Is it related to divorce? Do men and women go there? Drill and stress 6)rooftop Elicit:show pictures CCQs: Do homescontain it? what are their shapes in istanbul? 7)negotiotions Elicit CCQs Is it between polititions? Do they discuss policy? drill stress To activate schemata and prepare learnes for the text , I will ask SS to look at titles and pictures and discuss it Possible ICQs: Are these titles and pictures? Should you dicuss them?
To get a global understanding of the text,I will ask SS to read the questions in the task number 2 and match them with each piece of reading. I also tell them that there are two extra headings. and then check the answers with each other. ICQs: Do you read these headlines ? will you match them with readings? To find specific information in the text , I will ask ss to do third practice. , They need to read the articles again .they nned to choose the correct sentences the complete the articles. and then check the answers with each other.
To gain a deeper ,more comrehensive understanding of the text.. there will be some sentences that describe words in texts , i ask Students to find words in each aricle and match them with words. Possible ICQs: Shoud you read the texts again ? Should you find words in texts will you match them with sentences?
I will ask SS to talk in pair about: 1)Which of the protests in the newspaper articles do you sympathize with most? 2) Which is the best form of protest?
