Description

In this lesson students will improve their fluency in speaking. Dilemma is the topic of this lesson. we will enter to the topic trough a warm up practice by asking students about difficult decisions and choices they have had. It will be fallowed by asking them if they have ever been in a situation to chose from among two possibilities both of which are important for them? is it a had decision? they will be asked to work in pairs and explain why it was hard for them to take the decision in such a situation. they will be taught about Dilemma and some other VOC. they will be asked to read three paragraphs and to describe which situation is more difficult. after discussion students will have time to talk in groups about their own dilemmas. finally they will have time to talk their experience in class.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To generate interest in the topic of lesson

Teacher will start to explain how it was difficult for her to take decision about leaving her family to come to Istanbul then she will ask students if they have been in the same difficult situation to take a difficult decision. they will be guided through some questions like: what was your most difficult decision? what made the decision hard for you?

Preparation (8-10 minutes) • To give learners time to prepare ideas on the topic

Teacher will explain students that they are going to take a handout , an imaginary situation with two desirable/ undesirable options but students have to choose only one of the options and explain the reason of it. the text is designed in a way that it will be difficult for them to pick one of options. ICQS : is it imaginary situation ? Do you have 2 options? are you going to choose one of them ? are you going to explain us why you choose you option?

Useful Language (2-4 minutes) • To remind learners of or provide them with useful language for the task

The meaning and concept of Dilemma will be clarified for students using eliciting methods. the blocking vocabularies of the task will be provided. here. ICCQs will be asked to assure if they comprehend the concept of delimmas : does dilemma occur when a person has to chose an option among two options ? (yes) are the options always desirable? (no) are the options always undesirable? (no)

Task (8-11 minutes) • To give learners time to do the task

Structure of first task will be clarified for them : they are going to read and think three situations and decide who has the most difficult decision to take ? they will have enough time to discuss the situation with their partner. they will be explained that there is no correct answer but they should give reason for their option. ICQs are: are you going to read the text? (yes) is it about a hard situation ? (yes) are you going to choose which one is easier ? (no) are you going to tell us reason ? (yes) Now teacher will give them the task to do.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

its a pair work practice and students will discuss the questions of the task . teacher will read the questions and explain them how to answer them. ICQs: are you going to provide advice for these people ? (yes) are you going to talk about your own experience ? (yes)

Feedback (3-5 minutes) • To provide feedback on content and language

Students will talk about their own experience about dilemma and this time teacher will try to help and correct them in case of any mistakes.
