Description

In this lesson, I will start with a fairly easy lead-in to elicit the adjectives about feelings they already know. Then They try to guess the meaning and use the words in the context. They listen to pieces of music that to create scenarios using the TL.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice for students for words about feelings in the context of music

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of music and feelings

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will show them different pictures of different emotions. Students will try to describe in their own language the state of the character in the picture. I will write their answers on the board.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

The students read the fragments in HO1. Students work in pairs to match the words with the pictures in the board.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

I will ask for situations that provoke certain feelings in hte students'. Students work solo to finish the sentences in HO1 with situations that makes them true for them.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

This stage is for drilling the TL and for CCQs. I will ask concept check the MEANING of the words. Students work in groups of 8 to rehearse the words in a game. (each one of the group is assigned a word. They call their word and the word of another students. The other students says his word and another's. The one who makes mistakes will lose his/her turn.)

Controlled Practice (5-8 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

I will ask students about their favorite piece of music and how it makes them feel. Students listen to four pieces of music and discuss in pairs about how they makes them feel.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

I will ask the students whether one of the pieces of music reminded them of a situation or a movie. I will divide them into groups and assign each group a piece of music. They listen to the piece then answer the questions in HO#2 to create a scene.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

I will introduce the activity by asking students about their writing experiences. They then work in pairs to create short scenarios and act them out.
