In this lesson, students will learn about free time activities

Main Aims

  • To provide practice of go out eat out do sports go shopping in the context of pictuers
  • To provide specific information listening practice about call a friend/ my family, watch TV/DVDs, go out, eat out, do sports, go shopping in the context of pictures tracks

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification of the vocabulary of free time activities

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T will have flashcards stuck on the wall, then distribute phrases cards. SS have to go around the room and stick the phrases under each picture.

Pre-Reading/Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

T draws SS attention to the picture and asks questions to have them predict what the conversation is about. Are they friends? where are they? what do you think they are talking about?

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

T lists instructions simple and clear then lets SS read the first two sentences, play the track till it covers the first two sentences. pauses. check answers. Then lets SS listen to the track. T takes feedback as a class.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

T lists instructions clearly. sets the context of Jaenette. Tells SS that they are going to listen to find specific information about Jaenette. Tell them if she does the activity tick it, if she doesn't, don't tick it. T monitors while answering. T lets SS check answers in pairs. Gives feedback if needed.

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

After SS finish listening, T gets their attention to the last slide question and tells SS that they are to answer that question alone. T lets SS do the Speaking activity 1b in pairs. T monitors while they are talking. take feedback as a class.
