Description

In this lesson, Ss learn verb-to-be (affirmative & negative)and how to use it to introduce themselves and their jobs. The lesson starts with identifying some jobs then watching a video in which two students introduce themselves using verb-to-be. This will be followed by highlighting and clarification of the grammatical aspect. Finally, there is some controlled practise through fill-in-the-gaps Qs and free practice via a final role-play speaking activity.

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of Introducing oneself

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Ask the students to guess who in the images to elicit using verb-to-be from them.

Exposure (5-8 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Let Ss watch the video and pay attention to how to introduce themselves using Verb to be.

Highlighting (2-3 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Ask Ss to fill in the gaps in the transcription of the video that are all verb-to-be answers.

Clarification (5-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

T explains verb-to-be to the Ss and its usage. T drill the pronunciation and form examples with the Ss.

Semi-Controlled Practice (3-5 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

In groups, Ss answer the Qs in the HO, then check them with each other. After that, they check it with the teacher.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

In pairs, Ss talk to each other and introduce themselves and talk about their jobs using verb-to-be. Then they will role-play what they did again before the whole class.
