Description

In this lesson students improve their fluency skills through speaking. The lesson starts with a vsome pictures to tell a story used as a warm - up/lead in activity. Then, they will share the most interesting story with the rest of the class.

Main Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation and a discussion in the context of learning new language

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of lexis in the context of using apps to learn new language

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in narrating picture (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

a Q fc Discuss the questions. 1 How many languages can you say ‘Hello’ in? 2 How many languages can you order a meal or have a simple conversation in? 3 What language are you best at (apart from your own)?

Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

Task 1: Ss will be divided into two groups. They will be given two sets of pictures and words. First, they will match the words with the correct pictures. Then, they will discuss which ones are better reasons to get a divorce and organize them in order of importance. Finally, two members from each group will come to the board and stick their pictures on it. They will compare their preferances. Task 2: Each student will be handed a piece of paper with a different short story on it. First, they will read their stories. They will be seated face to face and retell their stories. They will take turns until everyone hears about each story. When they finish, they will turn back to their seats and tell which story is their favourite and why.

Productive Task(s) (18-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Feedback and Error Correction (8-10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

T will take notes throughout the lesson and write some examples of students' mistakes on the board. Correction about these mistakes will be taken from the students if possible. If there's still extra time, Ss will be divided into two groups and will be given some ideas to discuss.
