In this lesson students will learn how to write an informal online advert. Focus is on describing the situation (the job, your plans,etc.)

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students.

Great the students. Write on the board this question: Have you ever used the internet to..... ? *buy or sell something *rent a room *meet other people or join a group Teacher asks students to apply (Timed pair share method) and then answer the question in pairs. He gives them (think time)1min. Talk time 2 minutes. ICQs Are you going to work individually or in pairs? Pairs! How long time are you going to talk?2 minutes! Teacher says:stand up,hands up ,pair up. Students start asking and answering the questions.

Gist task (2-3 minutes) • To practise reading quickly for overall understanding.

*Ask students to read adverts a_c on page 52 and 53 quickly to answer this question: *Which of these topics does each advert mention? - dates or times money travelling types of people work ICQS Are you going to read or write? Read! Which pages are you going to read? P.52 and 53!

Reading comprehension (5-10 minutes) • To focus on language and be aware of the structure and layout of the text they will write

T asks the students to read the adverts again and answer the questions. Advert a 1 - Where is the trip? North India and the Himalayas. 2- How many people are they looking for?one or two people 3- What kind of person are they looking for?Sociable and not too serious. Advert b 1- What are the main responsibilities of the job?Teaching English, art and Maths. 2 - When does the work start? Next month 3 - What kind of person are they looking for?Positive and outgoing Advert c What does the job involve? Help with garden and house What experience is needed? No experience needed How long is it for? For two weeks

Useful language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks.

Read about the language used in the adverts. Which adverts do sentences 1-6 describe? Write a, b or c. 1-Sentences start with we or you. a, с 2-Sentences start with impersonal nouns like jobs or duties____ b ____ 3- Sentences use formal words like candidates or volunteers____b____ 4- Passive verb forms are often used___b_____ 5-The advert uses conversational expressions {Hi there, get back to, fixing things)-----a-c-- 6- Some sentences and phrases end in exclamation marks___a_____ T draws a chart on the board and ask:Which features in 3 a marke the adverts seem........? In the first section he writes a- more personal and friendly......b_more Impersonal and official. *T devides the students into two rows and gives the first student from each row a marker to write the answer and after he finishes he gives the marker to another student to answer

Ask students to write their own advert they can choose one of these situations:

Ask the students to write their own advert . They can choose one of these situations : • You’re travelling somewhere and you want more people to join you to make a group. • You’re organising charity work and you want to take on some volunteers to help you. • You want to employ someone to work for you for a couple of weeks. Clarify that when writing an advert you should : 1 -Give a heading to draw attention to the advert. 2 -Describe the situation (the job, your plans, etc.). 3- Say what kind of person you’re looking for. 4- Ask for a reply. Divide the students into 4 groups using ((Rally table ))activity . *Give them ((think time)). *Let them brainstorm the topic. A student A writes the heading,then he passes paper and pencil to student B who writes the description,After that he passes the paper to student C to to complete.......etc . * They continue until the teacher calls ((Time )) *After finishing they can exchange the papers with other groups .

Feedback and error correction . (8-10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students’ production and use of language

*Every group recommend a speaker to read their advert. *Comment on the good language and interesting parts. *Let them check their advert in pairs by asking and answering these questions: 1- Do you think it’s too formal, not formal enough, or about right? 2- Have you used any reduced expressions? Ask each pair to read another student’s advert and write a reply as homework. 1 Say you’re interested. 2 Give details about yourself. 3 Ask any further questions.
