In this lesson,students practice the use of(For,Since ,Ago and The present perfect continuous)in the context of Life stories.

Main Aims

  • To provide review and practice of the use of(for,since,ago and the present perfect continuous)in the context of Life stories.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide specific information and detailed in the context of life stories.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

-Ask students if they know Adell. -Ask them(Does any one of you love her?). -Show Ss a video about her lifestory. -Ask Ss to watch this video very carefully as we will make an open discussion after watching. -Ask CCQs:-When did her father leave her? -How many schools did she attend? -Did she dream to be famous? -Ask each student to choose a famous character in his life and tell us about his\her life story? -Listen to the students.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

-Tell the students that this shape is called lifeline. -Tell them that here ,we have a student of English who is called Sara and she is talking about her life story. -Ask Ss to listen to the audio and fill the gaps from the audio. -Monitor the Ss. -Ask Ss to check their answers. -Ask CCCQs:Did she start learning English after or before she began studying medicine? -Before.

Highlighting Language (3-5 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

-Ask Ss to look at the lifeline about Sara again and try to fill this gaps from the lifeline. -Tell them that they will find also verbs between practice. -Ask them to put them in the correct form. -Demostrate the task. -Monitor the Ss. -Do the task with the Ss. -Ask Ss which of these sentences are in( the past simple,present perfect and the present perfect continuous)? -Ask Ss CCQs:-(a)How do you know that this sentence is in past simple? -(b)Does it mean that this action (moved) happened and finished in the past? -(d)Does it mean that she is still working as a radio announcer nowadays -(h)Why do we use this sentence in present perfect? Give me the form of the sentence? Why didnot we use (p.p.c)here?

Clarification (10-15 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

1-Write (ago) on the board . -Ask Ss CCQs :We use this word only in...... Could we use it in present perfect or present perfect contionuous? -Stick the cards about(10 am-2010- last october) on the board. -Ask Ss (If we want to use ago here ,how could we say it?). -Elicit the answer from the students. **** 2-Write the marker sentence on the board. (Sara has been learning English since 1998.) -Ask CCQs to check the meaning. Does it mean that she started learning English in the past? yeah Does it mean that she is still learning English untill today? yeah. -Elicit the meaning from the Ss. -Drill the sentence. -Elicit the form from the Ss. -Ask them to give me the negative form . -Ask them to make yes,No and Wh question. **** 3-Write (since -for) on the board. -Ask CCQs : could we use both of them in p.f and p.p.c? -Ask Ss to look at exercise 2 again and tell me the use of since and for. -Stick the cards about the meaning on the board. -Ask Ss to look at the cards stick on the wall and tell me which of these cards could we use after( since) and which of them could we use after (for). -Write the 2 sentences(d)and (h) from exercise 2 on the board and show the difference in meaning on the timeline.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

-Tell the Ss that in this task I want them to do 2 things 1)Put the verbs between practice in the correct form. 2)Circle the correct alternative(since or for). -Demonstraite the task. -Monitor the Ss. *** -Ask the Ss to listen to the audio and aswer the questions using (ago,for and since). -Tell them to only the short answer. -Demonstriate the task. -Monitor the Ss. *** -Ask Ss to listen to the audio again and choose 5 questions to ask his partner. -Monitor the Ss.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

-Ask Ss to draw a lifeline like sara s for themselves. -Ask them to mark important dates and events in their life. -Ask them to plan which (time words and verb forms) they use. -Ask each Ss to tell his partner. -Monitor the Ss. **** -Ask each Ss to awrite a short paragraph about his partner lifeline.

Feedback (3-5 minutes) • To praise any good use of the TL and correcting mistakes.

-Give Ss feedback about the language. -Greeting the Ss.
