Description

In this lesson, students learn about 'Present Perfect Tense'. The lesson starts with discussion about 'Simple Past and Present Perfect'. This is followed by answering three questions related to two sentences. The teacher gives information about the time expressions ( 'Finished' time or time 'up o now'). And the students put the time expressions under the appropriate heading. The students complete the sentences with a time expressions. The teacher divide the irregular verbs in 3 into 2 groups. Group A where the past simple and past participle forms are the same; and Group B where they are different.The students add the following verbs to the appropriate group. The students make questions from the following prompts.Finally; the students choose 3 questions and ask to each other.

Main Aims

  • To study and practice on 'Present Perfect Tense' using time expressions and superlative adjectives form.To teach them irregular verbs where the past simple and past participle forms are the same and which they are different.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To give the students freer speaking practice in order to encourage their spoken fluency.The students make and use the question forms and affirmative or negative forms of 'Present Perfect Tense'

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The teacher shows them 2 pictures. The teacher gives instructions about the pictures and shows them first one, and asks different questions about it.( Where are the newspapers? Is the door broken? Is the window clean?) And then ,the teacher shows them second picture and asks the same questions about this picture.They discuss 'Past Tense and Present Perfect tense in these pictures.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

The teacher gives the students two different short articles. They read them.And the teacher gives them two sentences and 2 questions related to these sentences.The teacher writes two sentences on the WB and the students try to answer the 2 questions in different groups.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

The teacher gives them one more question. They discuss in different groups and try to form affirmative,negative and question forms of 'Present Perfect tense.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

The teacher gives instructions about 'Finished' time and time 'up to now' and write them on the WB.The teacher gives them different time expressions and they study in groups and find correct time expressions for both sides.They come to WB and write correrct forms on the WB.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

The teacher gives the students HOs .The ss complete these sentences with a time expression ( 'Finished' or 'Up to now') They choose the appropriate tense and try to make all the sentences true for them. They compare their sentences with a partner.And then they tell their own sentences to the class

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

The teacher divides the irregular verbs in 3 into two groups.Group A where the past simple and past participle forms are the same; and Group B where they are different. The teacher gives more verbs (HOs) to the students. They study in different groups and add these verbs to the appropriate group(Group A or Group B)

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

The teacher gives them HOs.The students study with a partner.They make questions from the following prompts. They choose three questions and ask different groups in the class.
