This lesson Plan is based on the task-based learning In this lesson students will learn about the Past Simple through a reading text based on family and life events. This lesson starts with a discussion about family relationships and life events , before reading the text i will explain the blocking words ( maximum 4 words ) then students will read the text and discover the Past Simple tense and learn the rule from it.This is followed by a lead-in where i will show students flash cards about a famous actor and i will ask them some questions about his life and the importent events he witnessed. Then comes the pre-taching step which is based on the meaning prononciation form. After the language focus there will be a speaking and wrting activities about their last holidays.

Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will show students a picture of steve Jobs and ask them some qustions about his life and will elicit the context . 1- I will ask them to look at the picture ask ask them questions : * who is this ? Steve Jobs : okay *when was he born? 1955 : okay *is he still alive? no : okay *when did he die? 2011 : okay

Pre-teach Task (4-5 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text

i will ask students to read a small paragraph and underline the verbs in the past simple tense.Then will ask them to check their answers in pairs and compare them. Finally i will ask them to give their answers and correct their mistakes.

Language Focus (6-8 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

To provide them with the activity of teaching model language. I will write two sentences on the board containing verbs in the simple past tense. I will ask them about the tense used in these two sentences . For examle : the verbe played , they should identify the verbe in the sentence and say that this verbe is used in the simple past tense . I will then drill pronounciation of the verb . I will focus on the pronounciation of the 'ed' and ask them to repeat after me : played, yes! played , yes!

Controlled practice (Pronunciation) (5-6 minutes) • To practice the pronounciation of the 'ed' in different ways

In this task i will ask students to work individually and put the verbs in the correct column according to the pronounciation of the 'ed' i will first ask them to say the verb and then write it the correct table . Then i will ask them to check in groups their answers and discuss them . Finally i wil ask them to check the answers together and give them feedback and correct their pronounciation.

Semi-Controlled Practice (Speaking) (6-7 minutes) • • Provide students with thinking skills

In this part of the lesson i will ask students to work with their text book and do the exercice and show them the exercice on their book. In this activity students will work individually. In this exercice students should choose one of the three given answers written between parentheses , students have to read the sentences and choose the correct form of the verbe in the past simple tense. After explaining the instruction i will ask them some ICQS to check their understanding : * are you going to work individually or in pairs ? individually , yes! * are you going to choose one answer or several answers to each sentence ? one , okays! * are you going to find the correct form of the verbes in the simple past tense or in the simple present tense ? S past T , good ! Then i will give them 5 min to do the task . After that i will ask them to check their answers in pairs and compare them Finally i will ask them to give their answers ans correct their mistakes

freer Practice (Speaking) (6-7 minutes) • To let students practice speaking about their last summar holidays

In this part i will give students hand out and ask them to work in groups of four students . I will choose a student and ask him a question ,eg where did you go last summer ? and the students starts talking about where he went and what he did using the target language . Then i will ask students to do the same each one asks his friend the same question. I will ask them some CCQS in order to check their undertanding eg : are you going to work in pairs or in groups ? in groups , okay Are you going to talk about your last vacation or your next one ? our last vacation , okay Then i will let them work in group and supervise them but i will leave a space in order to give them the opportunity to speak but i will write down the common mistakes especially the wrong use of the past simple tense . Then i will ask them to join their places and write on the board the common mistakes and ask them to correct them ,and finally i will give them feedback.
