Main Aims

  • By the end of this lesson, Ss will have practiced and learnt about words of clothes and accessories in the context of fashion show and shopping.

Subsidiary Aims

  • By the end of this lesson, Ss will have practiced speaking for fluency through commenting in the context of fashion shows.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-7 minutes) • To set the context and engage students

- I will start the lesson by showing a picture of me sitting on the floor in a clothes shop. - I will ask Ss some questions: " Where do you think I am? What about my feelings? Am I happy, sad, bored, tired? - Elicit from Ss " Do you like shopping for clothes?" through asking, "So, if your going to ask me if I like shopping for clothes or not, what would you say? - Ask Ss "What other questions can we ask here?" and elicit from Ss " How long does it take? " through miming. - Drill and finger highlight the question then write it on the board. - Elicit the question "Have you tried online shopping?" through asking "do you have to go to the shop to buy clothes?" Tell Ss to ask each other in pairs. O/C feedback.

Test #1 (5-7 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

- Through the use of some printed pictures and cards, I will create a picture gallery for Ss. - I will stick the pictures to the walls of the class and divide ss into pairs. - I will give each pair a set of cards and tell them: " I don't know the words for some clothes in these pictures and the words are here in these cards. I need you to help me here. If you know the word, stick it under the picture. If you don't know it, don't stick it." - I will monitor and try to understand what Ss know and don't know. -O/C feedback: "How many words you didn't know?"

Teach (8-10 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

Use a picture for each item to clarify the meanings of the vocab. Drill the vocab. Highlight the form and the phonological features on the board with markers of different colors. I will use the LA sheet in that stage.

Test #2 (4-6 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

- Chest the task and give instructions. "In this picture, we have different clothes. Here, we have the words for them. Match." - Ss check their answers together. - Provide an answer key.

Free practice (15-20 minutes) • To provide students with a free practice of the target language

- Show a picture of a person and elicit "He's wearing a suit / dress" through asking "What are they wearing?" - Drill and write the form on the board. - Change the setting of the in to two facing lines. - Tell ss that we will play a game. - Demo the game: " Welcome everyone to today's show, Class Runway. We're going to take a look at what people are wearing today and see who's the most fashionable of them all. First, we have Mr. Magdy, the Cool. He's wearing a black jumper and a pair of blue jeans. He's wearing a pair of Adidas trainer. Oooh, they look expensive. He's also wearing a nice watch. - Let ss do the same and start with strong ss.
