Main Aims

To provide gist listening practice using a text about paper work in the context of ordering some office supply

Subsidiary Aims

To provide practice of Can/Could I in the context of ordering some office supply

Procedure (43-55 minutes)

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Talk about working environments and some problem may arise while working with other people. In here it is very good to let students talk about their personal experience or what they are doing at work and how they ask their colleagues to do something for them.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Now I will ask students to listen to the audio file very carefully. Here the main is getting the gist not details

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Talk about Can/Could I and present the target grammar. Showing the formula, Could you spell your name please? Can I have your surname please? Then tell students to ask questions from each other with this grammar and ask questions from teacher too.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Students listen to the audio file again and will complete the order form. They will compare their answer with their partner before I check with class.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

Students will complete the sentences with appropriate verb and then I will play the recording again to catch the phrase and verbs they need for sentences. Then they will check their in audio script on page 138

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Students make as many telephone expression they can with the words from the box. I will give the students a 4 minute time limit for them to complete the task.
