Listening and Speaking in the context of crossroads,dilemmas,
Procedure (38-49 minutes)
Teacher will show a picture of a crossroad and ask the students 'what they think " At a crossroads " means".Teacher will elicit a few ideas.
Teacher will tell the students they are going to read about 3 people who are at a crossroads. Teacher will ask students to guess who has the most difficult decision to make. teacher will ask them to read the text. In pairs the teacher will ask the students discuss & compare their ideas and give reasons for these. Teacher will distribute the handout. Elicit some guesses.
Teacher will show a picture. Teacher will ask some questions about the picture. Teacher elicit some ideas from the students. T will explain that the characters names are Derek and Dave. T will tell Derek has a problem. In pairs, students will discuss what they think his problem might be. T will take some feedback.
T will tell the Ss "Find your guesses are correct or not" In small groups, compare their answers. ICQ T will play the first part of the listening. Pause the CD. Ss check in groups. Whole Class Feedback.
T will instruct students to listen to the conversation again. T will instruct students in pairs to look exercise2 and answer only questions from 1- 4. T will ask Ss if they remember the answers. If yes continue.if not play the first section again. T. will check the answers. Whole Class Feedback and write on the whiteboard. T asks "what do you think Derek will decide?Ideas? T will insruct Ss "read the questions from 5 - 8. T. will instruct Ss " listen to the conversation and answer the questions. T. will instruct Ss to check the answers with their partners. WC Feedback. T will help Ss with the answers.if needed T will read the relevant part from the typescript.
