Description

In this lesson, the SS will recall some of words they studied the previous day. They will arrange a mixed story. Also, they will be given some definitions. The SS will have to replace the idioms with the words. And they will be doing a quiz.. Finally, they will be given some cards to guess the definitions.

Main Aims

  • To intruduce and give practice in idioms related to health.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To practice reading to deduce meaning from context. To give practice in spoken fluency.

Procedure

Warmer / Lead-in (4-7 minutes) • To engage the students

illness words were studied the previous day: The SS will be given a folded paper, and on the blank side they will try to recall ten illness words. When they get done, they will check their words with the other groups. Later, they will be asked to open the other folded side and check how many words they got.

Pre-Lesson (5-8 minutes) • To prepare Ss for the up coming vocabularies and idioms

Ss will have cuts of a story. They have to arrange them in order according to their understanding. After that, they will check other groups' answers.

(3-6 minutes) • To let the Ss know how to predicte meanings

Ss will be given some definitions, to replace them with the underlined idioms from the story will be given.

Reading (5-8 minutes) • To make Ss read and know where the new words are used

Ss will be given handouts consist of 6 questions about themselves. The quiz is about "How much of a hypochondriac are you?". Each question has 3 choices A,B and C. Who gets mostly A is very hypochondriac, B is little and C is not.

Playing for Reviewing (5-16 minutes) • To review what they learned about illnesses and how to define words

Ss will be split up into 2 groups. They will be given cards with words and hidden definitions. Each group will take one set and will be put in a circle. Then they will put a pen in the middle and one-by-one will rotate it. Where the pen pointed the student who rotate it the pen has to predict the definition.
