Description

In this lesson, students practice listening skills by listening to John Lennon and also practice second conditionals through a post-listening activity. The lesson starts with some creative storytelling, they will listen to the song for gist, specific information, and details. Finally, there is a post-listening activity regarding problems in the country and what they would do to have them fixed. Since the sub-aim is oral fluency, T will do delayed error correction.

Main Aims

  • To provide gist, specific information and detailed listening practice using a text about A song by john lennon in the context of Peace

  • To provide review of words about war and peace in the context of Imagining a perfect world
  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a discussion, debate in the context of Helping the country improve

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

- After a short greeting, - T will show some pictures to Ss, trying to Elicit some vocab. - The pictures will be stuck to the whiteboard.

Pre-Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the listening and make it accessible

- "Look at these photos. Is there a story here?" - T will try to elicit the context of the song from the students. -"In your groups, try to come up with a story with these pictures." - Students will try to come up with a story, connecting the photos to each other."

While-Listening #1 (12-14 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information listening tasks

-Some gist questions will be projected on the board. - Students will listen to the song and answer the questions. -Some students will be nominated to answer the questions. - Students will have some cut-ups in front of them. They are all extracted from the lyrics. - They need to listen to the song and take the cut-up when they hear the word. -" when you hear a word, take the cut-up. The student with most cut-ups wins."

While-Listening #2 (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed listening task

- Students will be provided with the lyrics to the song, but the lyrics are incomplete. - Students will listen to the song again and try to complete the lyrics. -The worksheet will be projected on the board. -Students will come to the board and write the answers. -The answer key will be handed out as feedback.

Post-Listening (12-15 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the listening and expand on what they've learned

- Some problems regarding life in big cities will be written on the board. - Students need to talk about these problems in their own city. - They will exchange ideas on how they would try to fix these problems if they were in charge.
