Description

In this lesson students will learn to ask personal questions by using v-to-be through reading and exercise. The lesson starts with a question about a picture of an interview followed with an exposure by reading a survey and then the clarification of the TL and then controlled and freer practice of the TL.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of using verb to ask personal questions in the context of making a survey.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy of using verb to be by asking each other some personal questions.

Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students.

Teacher shows the students a picture of an interview and then ask them about what is this to elicit from them the topic.

Exposure (5-8 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Teacher will put some cards on the board with the questions and answers from the context which is a marketing survey. Ss will go to the board and re-arrange the answers correctly.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Ss will read the context and underline the verbs.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

teacher will use cards for each question in the context to explain the meaning by drilling and asking ccq's like for the question what's your full name? so my full name is mahmoud or mahmoud gamal eldeen and the question of what's your adress teacher will ask is it a name of place or the name of street and the question of how old are you ? teacher will ask the answer is a number or a name then i will explain the form by putting the cards on the board which is: Whats your phone number? are you married ? is he on holiday ? then teacher will ask them about the form and elicit the answer from them And for the part of pronunciation teacher will drill the question by saying it twice and then the students will listen and repeat and teacher will give students clear instructions of how many times they will listen before they will answer and the drilling will be choral then group the individually the teacher will show them cards again

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Teacher will give students handouts with a re-arrange exercise and he will ask them to do it individually also he will give them clear instructions and ask CCQ's to make sure they understand the exercise and also he will do the first one with them then after doing it individually he will ask them to check the answer in pairs and he will give them the feedback as a handout

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

teacher will ask ss to choose five cards from 8 cards he has as 8 different questions from the context which is the survey the he will ask them to work in pairs to ask each other 5 questions and gives them time then teacher will will ask Ss to tell him five pieces of information about his partner and also during the exercise teacher will monitor the students with the pronunciation and form mistakes and take notes then he will give them the feed back about the exercise by mentioning that someone said something wrong and he will correct it
