Main Aims

  • By the end of this lesson students will have been introdiced to present continuous tense in the context of neighbors

Subsidiary Aims

  • to practice listening for specific information


Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

-Show ss a picture. -elicit ideas about the topic of the sessions -ask them to discuss in pairs a question -elicit ideas -feedback

preteach vocabulary (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

-preteach vocabulary by eliciting -Ask ccqs -chest and give instructions (match the 8 verbs with the 8 sentences) -demo the first sentence -invite a strong student to demo the second sentence -ask ICQ ( ARE YOU GONNA SPEAK OR WRITE ?) -give ss time to match -ask ss to check in pairs - give feedback on the projector - divide the class to 3 groups -chest the task -Give ss instrucitons ( ask and answer these qustions ) -demo the task -Invite two students to demo -start the task -elicit ideas -feedback -

exposure (4 minutes) • expose student to the form of the present continuous

-chest the task -give ss instructions (here 8 sentences and 8 pictures .. match them) -ask students to check in pairs -elicit answers -give feedback on the projector -give instructions of the second task (cover the sentences \ look at the pictures\listen and write what is happening and where) - ask ss ICQS (are you gonna listen then write or speak? speak -check in pairs -feedback

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

-write the some sentences on board -elicit the meaning of the present continuous -ask CCQs -give ss feedback -elicit form of present continuous positive and negative statements and questions -give ss feedback -clarify contracted froms pronunciation , mark sentence stress and the intonation of the questions -drill

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

-instructions (now in pairs ask and answer questions about the people in the pictures) -Demo with a student -invite two students to demo -ask ss ICQ (are you gonna write or talk ? talk.)

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

-diive the group in pairs -give instructions(we have 2 pictures with eigh differences,describe your picture,start with left side don`t show your pictutr ) -describe your picture starting with left side (In my picture,on the left side a man is ...) -model -monitor -write some correct and in correct samples and correct
