Description

In this lesson the students will learn to listen, read and understand basic conversations in English. They will also answer question related to the listening and reading exercise. Finally, they should know the meaning on the words anti and strict.

Procedure

Warm-up and Lead-in (5 minutes) • Break the Ice and set the theme of the lesson

Wish the students good morning in Turkish - Gunaydin, arkadaslar Ask the class and write it on the board'; "if a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?" CCQ - Philosophical Question Can there be sound, if no one is there to hear it? Yes Do you need people for sound to exist? No What do you think, does it still make a sound? Tell students the lesson of the day and write it on the board. SWITZERLAND: The Sound Of Silence Ask the class if any of them have ever been to Switzerland. If yes, was it for vacation or to work? What did they think of it there?

Pre-Teach (8 minutes) • Introduce key words that appears in Lesson 4a

Show photo of Strict Teacher: What does this make you think? Do they look happy? No If you were in this position, would you feel sad, maybe stressed? Yes What is a word that could say what is shown here? Strict Write the word and meaning on the board and drill word. "Demanding that rules about behavior are obeyed and followed." Give a sentence: "My father was very strict." CCQ If a rule is strict, are you to follow it? Yes Can you do what you want? No Show photo of Bart Simpson: What does this make you think? Does the photo look like he's doing something he should? No Is it something lawful? No Do you think he would be arrested if he was caught by the police? Controlled Listening (7 minutes) • Reading, Listening and answering question.

Does she think they are a good thing or a bad thing? 2 minutes You will do this by yourself State the amount of time for this task. 7 minutes ICQ What are you going to do? Look, Read, Listen and Answer How much time do you have? 7 minutes Are you gonna work as a group? No, individually Ask the class, what's the answer?

Pre Teach (3 minutes) • Elicit the meaning of the word.

Draw a Chair, a table and a bed on the board. Ask the students, what are these things? Do you have them at home? Yes What do you call them? Furniture Write the meaning of the word and a sentence on the board. "The movable items that are used to make a room or building ready for living or working in." "The movers will come tomorrow for the furniture." CCQ Is your chairs and tables in this room furniture? Yes What about your kitchen sink at home, is that furniture? No

Semi Controlled Listening (12 minutes) • Listen and complete sentences

State Instructions Listen to her talking. 3 minutes Write the correct answers in the sentences 1-6. You will do this by yourself. 2 minutes State the amount of time for this task. 6 minutes ICQ What are you going to do? Listen and Answer How much time do you have? 7 minutes Are you gonna work as a group? No, individually Ask students if they would like to hear it again. If yes play once more. 3 minutes Put students in pairs and have them discuss their answers. ICQ What are you going to do? Listen and Check your answer Are you gonna work individually? No, as a pair. How much time do you have? 2 minutes Ask the pairs for the answers?

Freer Practice (10 minutes) • Discuss in pairs
