To provide clarification of the use of time linkers in sentences
Procedure (35-45 minutes)
tell a personal story about bad luck, using time linkers, then ask the sts to work in pairs and tell their partner about a time that they had bad luck, give them 2 mins to discuss, ask some ICQs: are you work alone? (no) do you have 2 mins? (yes) ask three or two students to tell the class about their partner's bad luck.
Introduce the students to time linkers. Give them the handout/worksheet with the target language (time linkers), and have them follow along while presenting a simplified version on the board: Use while, as and when to show that two actions happen at the same time, while/as/when I was walking down the street. Use the moment, as soon as when to show that one action happens immediately after another action. I across the road the moment/as soon as/ when I saw the black cat. Use by the time to show that one action has happened before another, I’d had three different accidents by the time I got home. CCQS
ask the students to work individually on exercise 1 page 40 on the student's book, give them 5 mints. after that let them discuss their answer with each other. give feedback.
ask them to do exersise 2 on page 41, let them work indivudaly for 5 mints, after they are done let discuss their answers in pairs, then give feedback. CCQs
for the free practice exercise ask them to write 2 sentences using time linkers about a bad luck they had recently, give them a personal example: so last night "yesterday While i was working, i was listing to music. give them 5 mins to work individually. ask some icqs after they are done answering, pair them to discuss what they wrote, if you noticed any mistakes, do an error correction on the board. give feedback
