Description

In this lesson, Ss will have the opportunity to use present progressive"Meaning now" in context of siblings' activities at home. Ss will answer gist and detailed questions about the reading, to get exposed to the lesson. Then, Ss will highlight the target language. After that, Ss will answer the discovery questions and practice the target language through controlled , semi-controlled and free activities.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

* T asks students to close their eyes and think about someone they love (maybe a parent or a friend) and think what might this person be doing right now? * Ss check answers together and then the whole class feedback.

Exposure: Reading for gist (2-3 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

* T arranges Ss into pairs. * T gives Ss a text to read. * Ss answer the questions below the text. * Ss check answers together, then whole class feedback. * Peer correction, in case Ss make errors.

Exposure: Reading for details (3-6 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through detailed questions

* T gives clear instructions about the detailed reading activity. * Ss read the text again and answer other questions. * Ss check answers together and then whole class feedback. * Peer correction, in case Ss make errors.

Highlighting (3-5 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

* T demonstrates specific sentences from the text . * T asks Ss about the used tense. * Ss highlight the tense in the text. * Ss check answers together and then whole class feedback.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

* T writes the sentences on the board. * T clarifies the form of the tense. * T clarifies the meaning of the tense by drawing a timeline on the board. * T elicits from Ss. * T Drills the sentence with Ss and focuses on pronunciation, stress and intonation.

Controlled Practice (3-5 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

* T gives Ss a sheet that has some pictures showing family members doing different things and students are required to answer the question under each picture. Ex: what is Mary doing now? She is cooking. * Ss check answers together, then whole class feedback. * Peer correction, in case Ss make errors.

Semi-Controlled Practice (5-7 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

* T divides Ss into pairs. * T gives Ss worksheet and Ss are required to fill in the gap about what type of chores the mother is doing on each day of the week. * Ss complete each other sheets and then whole class feedback. * Peer correction, in case Ss make errors.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

* In pairs, Ss are asked to create a dialogue between two friends. Friend no.1, is asking the other friend whether he is free now to play with him , but friend no.2 is busy with another activity now. * Ss present their dialogue to the class. * T notes any errors related to the tense or pronunciation. * T writes the errors on the board. * T asks Ss to find the mistakes and correct them. * T gives Ss a lesson summary.
