Description

In this lesson, students learn about the present continuous tense. The lesson starts with a discussion about what we are doing right now. This is followed by flashcards matching activity. Then the form is illustrated. after that comes individual activity then pair work. and finally there is free practice where each one write 5 sentences about what he/she is doing or not doing today

Main Aims

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

teacher talks about what is happening right now with acting and gestures

Exposure (10-15 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

students are divided to two groups one has text cards and the other group has the picture cards, and every one should find his partner then students are asked about what (the item of the photo) is doing Then another flash cards set of the present simple of the verbs is spread on the floor and each pair has to find the flash card with the same verb.

Clarification (3-5 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

- students are asked about the difference in meaning and form and teacher draws a timeline on board to emphasize the difference

Highlighting (4-6 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

- marker sentences are wrote on the board and the correspond flashcard is attached next to it. the teacher conducts a choral and individual drill - the negative and question forms are elicited and wrote on board

Controlled Practice (3-5 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

-student gap fill sentences individually then the class check with teacher. if there are mistakes teacher prompts peer correction

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

- teacher hands out each student one question written in present continuous. working in pairs each student will ask his colleague and the later has to answer with no and then give an affirmative sentence then they switch.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

each student is asked to write 5 sentences about what he/she is doing or not doing today Then share in pairs
