To give practice in skim reading for gist,reading more intensively for details comprehension and deducing meaning from context.
To consolidate vocabulary of illness and symptoms.To practise spoken fluency.
Procedure (35-44 minutes)
-Warmer/lead in to activate schemata and engage the ss by introducing the topic and getting ss to discuss the symptoms. T-S,GW , 5-7 minutes.
-get the ss to predict what they will be reading. Give them choices in ex 1 & see if they can predict the purpose of the article.Ss skim read to see if their predictions were correct &decide which is the correct answer. Ss check their answer in pairs, then w/c FB & discuss reason for the correct answer.
-Give ss ex 2 & get them to read the sentences.Ss read the article more slowly & then check their answers in pairs. Deal with any problems in w/c FB. Get ss personal reaction to the text.
