Description

In this lesson,students practice present simple(positive and negative)in the context of comparisons between life in Australia and life in Damitta.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of present simple(positive and negative) in the context of life in Australia.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in the context of life in Australia.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Show a video that compares between life in Australia and life in Damitta. Ask the SS(Do you think that life in Australia is similar to life here in Damitta?) Listen to some opinions.

Exposure (3-5 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

-Ask the Ss to read the questions in the handout. -Then,ask the Ss to listen to the oudio and number the questions. -Demonstrate the task. -Ask Ss to check their answers in pairs.

Highlighting (3-5 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

-Ask the Ss to listen to the oudio again and tick the sentences which are true. -Demonstrate the task with students. -Ask the Ss to check their answers in pairs.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

-Write a sentance about present simple(positive) on the board. -Show the form of the sentance(S+V). -Tell the Ss that (I,We,You,They) take the base form of the verb(inf). -Show the meaning of the present simple(habits or permanent situations). -Show the meaning on the timeline . -Tell the Ss that if we want to put this sentance in negative form ,we need a helping verb and (not). -Drill the sentance stress.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

-Ask the students to fill the blanks with the verbs between brackets. -Demonstrate the first sentance with the students. -Ask the Ss to check their answers . ( Extra activity) 1*Ask the Ss to stand up ,move around the class and try to describe the pictures sticked on the wall using the subject " I". 2*Make each two students work together ,one takes letter "A" and the second takes letter "B" first, A ask and B answer then B ask and A answer. 3*Write (positive)and (negative) on the board Divide the Ss into 2 groups and give each group some sentences written in cards Ask the Ss to stick the cards on the board. 4*Letters game Divide the Ss into 2 groups , give each group paper and ask the Ss to use these letters to make verbs in present simple.

Free Practice (18-20 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

-Show an essay written by Mr.Jone from Australia which is talking about his daily life. -Ask the each student to tell his partner about his daily life. -moiniter the Ss. ( Extra Activity) *Divide the Ss into 2 groups Ask each student to choose a card and make a complete sentence using the verb in the card.

Feedback (3-5 minutes) • To praise any good use of the TL and correcting mistakes.

-Give Ss feedback about the freer activity. -Make a discussion with Ss and ask them to ask me any questions they want. -Great the students.
