Description

In this lesson ss will read and understand a text about daily routines of a family in India.They will learn also about using adverbs of frequency correctly in present simple sentences.

Materials

Main Aims

  • • To provide gist and detailed reading practice using a text about the daily life of a family in the context of daily routines

Subsidiary Aims

  • to learn how to use the adverbs of frequency in daily routines context.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

in this stage, I will show ss some pictures of daily routines e.g.(go to school- get up- have lunch. go home.....etc).elicit what are these pictures about? (ss: Daily routines) .Stick these pictures on the white board.Ask ss to work in pairs to write these routines in order in their notebooks.Tell them they have 2 m to finish the task.Ask ss: Are these routines in order?(ss.No). What are you going to do? (ss:write them in correct order).How much time ...?(2M). Then check as a whole class.

Pre-Reading (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

In this stage, I will ask ss to open their books on P.30.and look at the picture for 1M.and try to predict what is the text about?.elicit answers (daily life of a family/the life of a farmer,....).Before ss read the text. I will introduce the blocking vocab.e.g.(series / continue/ culture/ field); 1- elicit these words by giving their meaning ,then check ss understanding through CCQS.: (series:(noun) a set of several articles about the same subject or topic) : Is it about one article or several? / Is it about different subjects? etc. ( continue: (verb) to keep or go on doing sth. without stopping ) e.g.She continues telling the story until the kid sleeps: Does she stop telling the story? (No)/ What does she go on? (telling a story). (field: a place in the country where a farmer grow plants and keep animals) Ask ss: Is it a place in the city or the country ? What does a farmer do there? (culture: way of life or customs in a place or a country) Ask ss: Is it a way of life in a country? What does it express in a place or a country?(customs and beliefs). 2- give a correct pronunciation of each word .get ss repeat. 3- Write the form of each word on WB. /

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and general information about the text.

- Tell ss to look at p.30 Ex.1a. and read the questions then work in pairs to read the text quickly and answer the questions within 3 mintues: - ask ss ICQS to make sure they understand : - Which exercise are you going to answer?*Ex 1a - Are you going to read the text first or the questions? * the questions. - how much time do you have? a Look at the pictures and answer the questions: 1- where do they work - in the city or the countryside? 2- what job do the people do? 3- Is there work easy or hard? - check answers as a class. Answers 1 in the countryside 2 they're farmers 3 it's hard

Reading for details (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading tasks

Tell ss to read again for more details and specific information.While reading the text, ask ss some questions to help ss understand it : What time do Garjan and Anjani get up every morning?/ How many hours do Garjan and Anjani work everyday? / Does Anjani have breakfast with her husband? .check as a whole class. Tell ss to work in pairs to answer Ex.c . P.30. Read the text again. Are the sentences true or false? Correct the false sentences.

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

In this stage, give ss worksheets with Fill in gaps Exercise to practice adverbs of frequency: Women .......... never eat with their men in India. their grandchildren .......... help them. get ss work in pairs and then check their answers. Divide the class into 3 groups of 4 ss. Then tell them to write about the good things and bad things of the Chopra's family. you have 5 minutes to finish this task. each group exchange their notes with the other to check and share ideas.
